The Day of Rights at the WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN is the public closing event for the Vom Ihr Zum Wir from DeutschPlus e.V. that seeks to create a space for belonging, participation and democracy. The young project participants will present their results to the general public.
From the 3rd to the 7th of July, the project was organised in cooperation with Ernst-Reuter-Schule Berlin: young people from a variety of backgrounds analysed democracy, belonging and their basic rights during several different workshops.
The workshops ranged from rhetoric and stage presence to career guidance, empowerment and anti-discrimination training, as well as a poetry slam and beatboxing.

The results of the individual working groups were presented at the end of the week and the pupils received a symbolic ID to remind them about protecting basic rights. “I am a protector of the constitution” was printed on the ID.
Both the DeutschPlus-Team and the young people got a lot out of the week.

• 14-year-old Shirin said: “I learned that everyone has the right to a secure future.”
• 16-year-old Ismail’s opinion: “It was very exciting for me to see how to go about applying for a job.”
• DeutschPlus managing director Elena Kalogeropoulos said: “It was great to see what the young people were able to take away after a week and how proud they were to be part of a common cause. We hope they will further pursue some of the ideas in the future.”
