Vocal Jazz

Esther Kaiser - Berlin-based jazz singer, recording artist on Label GLM, Vol 1 of the now famous series "Next Generation" from the magazine Jazz Thing and, now, professor of jazz singing - has dedicated herself entirely to the works of the great artist Abbey Lincoln with her latest album "Learning How To Listen - The Music of Abbey Lincoln" (Label GLM Music). She interprets Lincoln's songs with a freshness and with her own voice. Moreover, Esther Kaiser and her band have chosen some other moving pieces and original compositions for their upcoming concerts that come into dialogue with the songs of Abbey Lincoln and create a whole new musical context and effect.

The singer, who has worked in her career with jazz artists like Peter Herbolzheimer and Ack van Rooyen, sees herself as a storyteller who wants to paint pictures with sound - as a result, her music is both a haunting and playful invitation to listen.

Accompanying her is a band of top-class instrumentalists from the Berlin jazz scene:

The bassist Marc Muellbauer (a long-time musical companion of pianist Julia Hülsmann), Roland Schneider on drums and pianist Tino Derado from Munich. The latter met in New York, where they were active in the local jazz scene for many years.

Line Up:

Esther Kaiser, vocals
Tino Derado, piano
Marc Muellbauer, bass
Roland Schneider, drum

Invite Friends

The music school Paul Hindemith Neukölln is THE hotbed of talent in the Berlin jazz scene. The careers of the jazz stars of tomorrow begin in their preparatory courses run by expert-class jazz professionals. In collaboration with the WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN, the neighborhood music school can bee seen on stage at the WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN's Club for the monthly series "Jazz aus Neukölln". Professional musicians who teach at the music school each present a study preparation band and its own professional project. Also, there will be a big "StuVo night" with five students bands and the teachers quartet "4 Kometen" as well as an evening dedicated entirely to the Big Band of the music school.

Vibraphonist Franz Bauer is the curator of the series, who is also an instructor at Musikschule Paul Hindemith.

The concert series Jazz in Neukölln is a cooperation between Musikschule Paul Hindemith Neukölln and WERKSTATT DER KULTUREN.
